The micaelic cult in medieval Germanic traditions.

The Advanced Seminar in Germanic Philology is aimed at those who wish to further their education in topics related to Germanic philology, linguistics and culture. The 21st Seminar will examine the evidence for the emergence and spread of the cult of Michael the Archangel in the Lombard, English, German, Scandinavian and Middle Latin areas, with particular attention to the production of hagiographical, eschatological, soteriological and commemorative texts in which the saint is invoked with reference to one or more of his functions as psychopomp, purifier, thaumaturge, commander of the angelic army and opponent of Satan.
